Anime Genre

When an anime comes out, it includes one or two subjects. The Supernatural and/or school. You can find this to be in every anime, with one exception: Slice of Life.

Here are a few examples of the butt loads of supernatural/school animes

Dragon Ball Z
Air Gear

Unlimited Blade Works
Shakugan no Shana
Angel Beats!
Chuu Bra!!
Minami-ke
Manabi Straight!

Slice of Life!
Now this isn't to say an anime that's Slice of Life can only be Slice of Life. In fact, when we discuss genres, it can get very specific, to the point where not only are the genres listed by what it's based off of or their themes, but also what it includes - to even minute degrees.

Usually Slice of Life will be incorporated into Comedies. But as always you'll usually find school tagging along with Slice of Life. Though, Yotsubato! includes neither school nor anything supernatural. And from what an anime must have to actually be anime, either anything supernatural or school, Yotsubato! couldn't be classified as an anime! (Though it is just a manga) So in these odd situations, we revise our system and add Slice of Life, as something a series can have to be an anime.

Though as always, there are exceptions to Slice of Life which are unfortunately not incorporated into Comedies:
  • Bartender - Drama & Slice of Life.
  • Emma: A Victorian Romance - Romance & Slice of Life.

But who wants to watch those?

A huge reason people watch videos is to get away from what's going on in what we perceive as life.
This is why the Supernatural can be so engrossing; It's so different, and not what we're used to! School though is tricky - if we want to get away from all this stress, why are we watching the main character suffer through it? Because when we watch a movie or read a book, we generally think of ourselves as the main character; Thereby, we generally wish for good things to happen to said main character - which doesn't include getting loads of homework and beaten at school. This can be why a lot of ego-maniacs like when there's that unreasonably super powered, win at everything, flawless main characters (lame, there's no room for development). And also why masochist drama queens like stories where the main character is constantly screwed over (also lame, the loser never develops).
But as to why we watch animes that revolve around school could be answered in this next section.

Slice of Life again. We'll often times watch animes that seem to revolve around the daily life of someone.

"But Chandler, I thought we wanted to get away from it all? Aren't we being dragged back into our daily life if we watch those?" I'm getting to that! Just hold on!

We still are getting away from everything as we watch Slice of Life, though not to the same extent as watching something that's totally different from our reality. We're still escaping our lives, and just watching someone else's. Taking a break and just checking up on how it goes for others. This sometimes may have an underlying theme to remind us how much we neglect certain mundane parts of life that we should perhaps appreciate more. This is where people can gain simple joy by the ordinary things that life has to offer (being at this stage is quite advanced if you ask me).

That was a hefty read, so I'll give you this to help stay focused!

Too cute! My plan backfired!

Anyway guys, that was just a little bit I wanted to share with you all so we could all be on the same page. So I'll conclude now so we can all get back to planning our dream trip to Japan (I know that's what I'll be doing).

This is basically what the rough draft of most of my reviews looks like.

AKIRA

With a main character named Canada, what could go wrong?

The best line in this movie, "Skirt chasers will try anything these days... You'll help anyone so long as it's a girl..."

So.. so... BAD!! Hahaha, seems like I've hit a bad streak here. I seem to only be able to find crap!
This movie was nothing like I expected it to be. Boo. Yup, two thumbs down. But hey, at least it wasn't
as bad as Unlimited Blade Works. And I guess I have to give it a little extra because it's old - like I always do.
So instead of a 2, it's a 2.5. Yay!

It seemed to be a rushed 2 hour long movie. Now how's that happen?

I hear argument that it's supposed to be symbolic. But then why did they put it in such a complex way, that most likely, the only people who would understand, are part of the choir? Maybe it was meant to say, "We cannot control all the power we desire," "We shouldn't try to kill our friends," "Don't get your girlfriend involved in supernatural activity," or maybe it was just symbolic for the movie sucked and that we shouldn't have watched it? I don't know. It's anybody's guess really.
Anyway, the end almost dipped into decent, but it was too little too late.

And as always, whether you watch it or not is up to you.
Thanks for reading!...?
